The Ironman Lake Placid Triathlon was my first full Ironman distance race to photograph.  That’s a 2.4 mile swim, a 112 mile bike ride followed by, yes, a marathon, 26.2 miles… just typing it makes me tired.  Needless to say while the triathletes are out killing themselves to complete this race, there is a decent amount of down time for a photographer.  Although having to carry my 25+ pounds of camera gear around with me all day, was a bit of a workout… It still pales in comparison to what these athletes put themselves through.

We didn’t want to jinx anything, but the night before the race we bumped into Andy Potts on the streets of Lake Placid.  I had taken a photo of him at the finish-line of the Ironman 70.3 Triathlon in Oceanside earlier this year, and we joked with him, that I was hoping to follow that up with another finish-line photo to rival the one I shot in Oceanside.  Well, 8 hours and 25 minutes after the race began, I got my chance to get that shot, as Andy once again, finished the race victorious.
